Telfair Museums in Savannah, GA

Telfair Museums was founded in 1883 and is the oldest public art museum in the South. The legacy came from one visionary Savannahian, prominent local philanthropist Mary Telfair, who left her home including its furnishings to the Georgia Historical Society with the purpose of being opened as a museum. At present, Telfair Museums is composed of three unique buildings namely the Telfair Academy and the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters, two National Historic Landmark sites built in the early 19th century, and the contemporary Jepson Center for the Arts.
